Local Air Agencies
Along with U.S. EPA and IDEM at the federal and state level, there are agencies who work at the local level to ensure that the regulated community complies with air pollution requirements. While each local air agency is structured differently to best serve its citizens, their primary duties may include monitoring pollution levels, writing permits, conducting compliance inspections and enforcing against violations. Local requirements may be more stringent than federal or state requirements, so you may want to contact these agencies directly for more information.
Six local air agencies in Indiana administer air pollution programs in their city or county. These are: Anderson, Evansville, Gary, Hammond, Indianapolis, and Vigo County.
